Location: Remote - based in Albuquerque, NM
Utilize your creative skills to support wildlife conservation in the Southwest! This is a remote position supporting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Southwest Region Visitor Services team in design and creation of interpretive products, namely brochures, flyers, signage, refuge maps, and others as assigned. If between the ages of 16-30, intern will work towards 640 hours to qualify for the Public Lands Corps Hiring Authority through the Federal Government.
The position is remote and supports National Wildlife Refuge System staff out of the Albuquerque, NM regional office. FWS will provide all necessary materials such as a FWS-furnished laptop and access to Adobe Creative Suite.
Design, prepare and revise regional publications such as hunting and fishing brochures, general information brochures, interpretive signage, and event flyers.
Utilizes a variety of desktop publishing and graphic software programs, namely the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), to create electronic files ready for online publishing or delivery to commercial printers.
Schedule and conduct meetings with National Wildlife Refuge managers as clients.
Coordinate with the Visual Information Specialist and two other design intern on projects.
Opportunities for personal projects based on intern interest, like drawing vectors to be used regionally and nationally or creating interpretive sign templates.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator) or similar design software
Skills in written and oral communication
Demonstrated interest in graphic design or other creative pursuits
Comfort working independently and with a team
Desired Qualifications:
Interest in working for a federal land management agency
Experience with map creation in ArcGIS Pro is preferred but not required
